Nights In with Tayla

At A&C, food is more than just a meal - it’s about connection, creativity, and the joy of sharing a meal with loved ones. We love discovering new recipes and hearing the stories behind them, which is why we caught up with our lovely Bloc Store Manager, Tayla as she tested a recipe from Seriously Delicious by Polly Markus.

1.Tell us a bit about yourself, your home, and the people you share it with?

I live with my partner, Sam, and our 2 year old son, Jack. Our home is our sanctuary – a place filled with love, laughter, and the chaos that comes with having a toddler! It’s where we create special memories together, from quiet family dinners, having friends and family around, and chasing our little one around. Home is our safe space, where we unwind, support each other, and enjoy the simple joys of everyday life.

2. How would you describe your home & style?

Our home has a calming and earthy aesthetic, blending natural textures with modern simplicity. I love incorporating warm wood tones, neutral colours, and organic materials to create a space that feels both stylish and comfortable. There’s a balance of minimalism and coziness, with meaningful pieces, fresh greenery, and little touches that make it feel personal. It’s a family-friendly home, and every piece is thoughtfully curated to make it a peaceful and welcoming space.

3. What’s one of your earliest food memories?

One of my earliest food memories is the home cooked meals my Nan used to make. She had a way of making simple, classic dishes feel like the ultimate comfort food. Whether it was a hearty roast dinner, a warm bowl of her vegetable soup on a cold day, or her yummy baked treats, there was always something special about sitting at her table. The smell of home cooking, and the love she put into every meal still brings back some of the fondest memories.

4. What’s your favourite cookbook and go-to meal?

I don’t have a specific favourite cookbook, but I love meals that are simple, wholesome, and full of flavour. Cooking is more about the experience for us, it’s about bringing people together

My favourite meals to cook are the classics – spaghetti bolognaise and a hearty chicken and vegetable soup. Spag bol is a go to because it’s comforting, easy, and a great way to sneak in extra veggies for the kids. The chicken and vegetable soup is another favourite, especially on cooler days. It’s nourishing, full of flavour, and a great way to use up things in the fridge.

5. Any advice for creating a home you love?

Creating a home you love is all about making it a reflection of you and your lifestyle. Surround yourself with pieces that bring you joy, whether that’s sentimental décor, warm textures, or items that serve a purpose. Prioritise comfort and practicality. Your home should feel inviting, not just look good. Incorporate natural elements like wood and greenery to add warmth, and don’t be afraid to mix styles to make it feel uniquely yours. Most importantly, the home is about the people in it, so focus on creating a space that feels welcoming, lived in, and full of love.

Fill the blanks:

Best Local drink: Matcha in the morning from Bloc Café, and cocktail in the evening from Caretaker – best of both worlds!

Best way to start the day: Waking up to our little boy jumping on us – there’s no better way to start the day, and these little moments won’t last forever! Then, definitely a strong Matcha to wake up properly.

What does your downtime look like: Downtime is a rare luxury with a toddler! But when I do get a moment, it’s usually spent unwinding at home, or tidying up the house! Otherwise, we’re all about making memories and soaking up the little moments.

Favourite thing about working in Bloc: The sense of community. It’s more than just a workplace – it’s a space filled with creativity, great people and a shared love for beautiful design. There’s always a warm, welcoming vibe that makes every day enjoyable.
