Evening Rituals with Rae Sacha

It’s no news that quality sleep leads to high performance and elevated mood during the day. But how do you achieve quality sleep? In celebration of World Sleep Day, we talk to local Make Up Artist Rae Sacha about her evening rituals and sleep secrets to elevate a good night’s rest.

01 What time do you go to bed? Walk us through your bedtime ritual.

Most evenings I am in bed by 10pm at the latest.

My bedtime ritual includes ensuring the next day is set up for ease such as writing up my task list, ironing my clothes for the morning and packing my makeup kit. I find having these in order allows for a restful evening knowing I am prepped without too much to do in the morning.

02 What sleep or beauty products do you swear by that you won’t go a night without?

An evening skin routine is a must for me and something I look forward to.  Some nights I may include a hydrating face mask (Antipodes Manuka Honey Mask) and with frequent mask wearing at the moment I am loving the benefits of an LED facial mask (Dr Dennis Gross).

03 What does winding down consist of for you

Winding down for me includes my evening skin routine, followed by a herbal tea or hot cacao in bed. I am guilty of screen time before bed, however this is downtime where I get to read articles I will have saved throughout the day and catch up on social media.

04  What is your solution for those nights you simply can’t nod off to sleep?

Recently I have been focussing on breath work, not only for digestion but also for calming the body. I find my restless nights often comes from anticipating a busy day of work or mentally scanning through my to do list. Deep belly breaths helps calm the nervous system, a few minutes of this will often help me to fall off to sleep.

05 What are your treasured items for a well-styled bedroom?

A clear simple space is essential for my bedroom style. I love white bedding and simple and functional furniture.
