Tell us a little about you and your home and the people who live with you?

I’m Hannah, I’m the Webstore Assistant at A&C. I live in a studio apartment in the city by myself. I’ve lived in Auckland since early 2019 and this is my first space I’ve had to call my own. After flatting with friends for the past 3 years it’s so nice to have a home that is entirely mine.

What’s the last thing you brought for your home?

One of our Robert Gordon Ceramic Egg Trays. I’m such a big fan of ceramics in the kitchen, it adds a really nice organic touch.

How would you describe your design style?

I’m a huge fan of mid-century modern furniture, I love deep greens and oak. I’m a minimalist at heart and generally stick to a fairly neutral colour palette with earthy textures like stone and linens. Japanese Wabi-Sabi is an interior style that I’ve recently discovered and I think is my new obsession. I love anything handmade and one of a kind.

Any advice for creating a home you love?

Shopping consciously. No matter what budget you are on I think it’s the best and easiest way to create a unique space that is entirely yours. Whether it be buying second hand, vintage or from small local businesses and artists. I like to mix in elements from my favourite design styles to create a space that is eclectic and interesting.

Proudest DIY:

My paintings. I’ve practised all kinds of art for my whole life and it’s nice to get to a stage in my art where I’m happy and proud enough to display them on my walls. I enjoy painting and drawing still life as it combines my love of cooking and food, and art.

Fill the blanks:

The coolest place you’ve been to: The Vatican City. I was lucky enough to go on a trip in my last year of high school to Europe for Art History. Renaissance is my favourite art period so I was absolutely ecstatic.

Best cup of coffee/tea is at: Orphans Kitchen, in Ponsonby. I love opting for a matcha instead of a coffee now and then and they make a great one. The food is great too.

Your go-to local eatery:  Lillian, in Grey Lynn. Amazing food, beautiful interior, great staff. Always my top recommendation for out of towners.

Favourite interior account to follow:

Softer Volumes. They’re a publication based in Australia who showcase the most amazing spaces including cafes, hotels, and homes. Really beautifully curated.

If you could bring back a fashion or home trend what would it be: I’m a huge fan of the work wear trend that’s been back in style recently. The old French painters jackets, boilersuits and Dickies pants etc. As well as homewares like the Vitra Toolbox. I’m a big fan of mixing really feminine and masculine pieces in my wardrobe, so I love incorporating more traditional men’s items with cute dresses and accessories.

Finish this sentence: I’m currently loving making from scratch. I love cooking and food. So my goal this year has been to make more of my own condiments etc that I would usually buy from the supermarket. I find it really fulfilling and an enjoyable thing to do in my home or with friends. Some of my favourites to make are, pickled veges, pesto, soups and breads.
