Top Retail Experiences in Chicago & LA

Travelling is such an inspiring way to see what’s happening in other cities and cultures, and it’s often where we find ideas to bring home for A&C and the store.

After my recent trip to the States, here are my top five(ish) in-store retail experiences in Chicago & L.A.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did (especially the Milk Bar treats)

RH (Restoration Hardware)
Housed in the MOST beautifully restored 19th-century former Arts Club, RH Chicago blends retail and hospitality perfectly. With six floors of pure luxury, each space is artfully styled and is like an art gallery rather than a traditional furniture store.

You are not able to take any purchases home on the spot, instead you can enjoy a coffee, a glass of wine, or a meal within the space before working with a designer to bring RH’s signature look into your own home.   An incredible concept for retail.  RH has it's galleries in some of the most stunning locations around the world.

Aritzia
This Canadian fashion brand has an incredible store fit-out. Think grand hotel foyer vibes—high ceilings, arched doorways, warm wood tones, gold accents, and a stunning green marble countertop. The abundance of (real!) plants adds to the inviting atmosphere too and a cool photo booth in the centre where you can take snaps and email the pictures to yourself.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery
Not your average Starbucks, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery is a beautifully designed five-storey coffee wonderland. From specialty brews and coffee flights to a cocktail lounge for evening drinks, you could easily spend an entire day (and night) here.

Ralph Lauren
Four floors of timeless, polished styling, a grand staircase, and perfectly curated artwork. Every room takes you on a journey, with thoughtful lighting and props that make you feel like you’ve stepped into the world of Ralph Lauren himself—effortlessly sophisticated and full of character.

Hoxton Hotel & Milk Bar
The Hoxton Hotel in the Fulton Market District with it's stunning mid-century furnishings and warm, homely space had some super cute details, they have a 'Takeaway Tips' sign where guests can leave tips for other guests and lots of other really lovely touches.  Milk Bar has only been opened a few weeks and we were so excited to get a piece of the NY cult brand, the 'Crack pie' didn't disappoint and the 'Cereal Soft Serve' was the best I have ever had.
